Training and experience
Ella Lawrence is a 21 year old mezzo-soprano. Born in Reading, she began singing pop and jazz, before moving on to primarily classical singing - although she does still sing jazz and musical theatre on occasion.
Ella first began singing solos in oratorios and choral concerts at fourteen, before moving on to study at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, where she is completing a degree specialising in singing performance. This has allowed her to explore and develop as a musician and to lay the foundations of her career.
Whilst at college she has studied with Laureen Livingstone and Linda Hirst, who is her current teacher. She has also been coached by Helen Yorke and Robert Bottriel. She has worked on a mix of Opera, Oratorio and art song, and recently has added Avant Garde to her repertoire.
Ella has a wide and eclectic interest in music, ranging from jazz and pop to avant garde and classical. She loves to perform, to hear beautiful singing and to help others sing well.
Performance experience
At Trinity Ella has taken part in numerous projects, including many new pieces by Trinity Laban composers. These include a choral piece in Japanese and a mini opera by Georgina Bowden which was performed at the Trinity Laban Gold Medal Showcase 2017. Work with more established musicians includes an altered production of Purcell’s King Arthur with Peter Wiegold and a production of Kagel’s highly experimental “Staatstheatre” with Lore Lixenberg.
Ella is an experienced recitalist and often performs at charity events and college recitals, which she greatly enjoys. In 2018, she had the privilege to take part in The International Academy of Musical Excellence in Austria with Diana Jacklin – another step which has helped her to come into herself as an artist.
Tuition
Since 2016, Ella has been helping other singers in all categories (and even people who consider themselves non-singers) to develop their voice, improve their technique and develop as performers.
In the future she is looking forward to her final year in college and truly beginning her career as a singer and teacher.
